Writing on the doorposts…

Many of you may remember but I started a blog several years ago under the name “Little Blessed Nest” at the time it was just my husband and my one year old. I loved being able to share insights from things I was learning in our home from, bible studies, parenting and crafting. I loved it but it was very time consuming. I also could never imagined what was right around the bend for us, going from 1 to 4 kids in 9 months only to find out 6 months later #5 was on her way. Many things fell by the wayside and the blog was no exception. The creativity the Lord sparked in the early years of homemaking began to grow deeper. Deuteronomy 6 challenged me to seek ways of being intentional in my home.

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”

I may have taken it to the extreme but I love looking around my home and seeing scripture crafted into signs, and seeing symbols of our faith in the holidays from a nativity at Christmas ,to lambs at Easter. The culture throws many things at us and our kids and I pray our home is a sanctuary from all those things but more than that I pray its a bright light in our community, that there is something different about our home (besides all the noise 5 kids can bring).

Over the last year and half the Lord has really rooted 2 Corinthians 5:20 in my heart. “Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.” As I have prayed about what it means to be an ambassador for Christ and how my role as a stay at home mom of five plays a part of that I really began seeing my home in a different light. If I am an ambassador then my home is an embassy. Scripture tells us that our citizenship lies in the Kingdom of Heaven, so my home then is an embassy of the Kingdom of Heaven. Everything about an embassy reflects its homeland right down to the art on the wall. This is where the Lord has stirred my passion in creating an environment that reflects him.

I come confessing there are many days our home does not reflect this with kiddos from 3 to 14, very often there is crying over spilled frosted flakes, ground in goldfish, lost uniforms, raised voices, and slammed doors. I pray that the words I have painted or placed on the walls of our home day by day become written on the walls of our hearts, so that His Spirit flows freely in us allowing us to love as he loved.
